Now that we finally have most of the basics in place,
there is really only some tweaking to do.
I really love this house
and I can't believe it is really ours now!
I have loved every home we have lived in,
but this one is definitely the coziest and most homey.
We painted our dining room table, bench, and chairs a creamy white, and I love it. But I was just not feeling this wall. It did not feel "done." The room is very small and there is almost no room for anything besides the table.
I have always wanted a fireplace with a mantel. We have a wood stove in our living room, and we love the cozy wood fires, but we have never had that elusive fireplace and mantel. I have seen many faux fireplaces on Pinterest and thought that might work here. I thought about making one but also kept my eyes open for an affordable one at an antique shop.
I found this one that I thought was just right. It is very old and shows it. I love the imperfections. I didn't take a photo of it before, but I didn't do anything to it but paint it.
It fits the space perfectly.
Here is a before photo of the wall.
And the after.
Brian made this box out of pallets. I used it for an herbs this summer and it weathered beautifully. I brought it indoors for the winter.
This is exactly the look this wall needed.
