Blizzard Nemo

We are expecting a blizzard here in southern New Hampshire.  They are saying this could be the biggest storm in 10 years.  It is also the 35th anniversary of the Blizzard of 78.   I was 15 years old that year.  My family was very poor and we lived near the ocean in Gloucester, Massachusetts.  This is where the movie "The Perfect Storm" takes place.  I can remember how unprepared we were back then.  We didn't have much food, and we had even less money.  I am so thankful for what my family has now.  The wood is piled high in the mudroom.  The fridge is full.  We don't have a generator, but we can always put the food in coolers outside and cook on the grill.  I feel safe and snug.  Of course, I don't know if I'll feel the same when the toilets won't flush anymore!

See that little purple oval below.  That's us.  Right smack dab in the middle of it!  That yellow arrow is pointing almost directly at my house!

I love living in New England.  I love the weather.  The snow, the cold, the humid summers and gorgeous falls.  I can't imagine living anywhere else.  So bring it on.  We're ready for you Nemo!

    1. Wow Karen, that is wicked cool! Haha. I used to shop at Cape Ann Market years ago. It is no longer there, well the building is, but it is another grocery store. My family is still in Glousta, so I go there often. How much snow did you end up with?

  4. We are experiencing the blizzard right now. All the schools are closed down, roads are closed. I have been hearing/reading about car accidents all day....who would leave their homes...not me!! Stay warm and cozy my friend. Diane

    1. Hi Diane. We all stayed in, except my oldest son who drives a plow. I couldn't believe the photos out of Long Island with people having to sleep in their cars. I don't know what it takes to make people listen - oh yes I do, do like Massachusetts and ban driving. They faced up to a year in prison, and a $500 fine. There was NO ONE on the roads.

    1. Hi Cindy! My town was at a stand still for over a week in '78. We've come a long way since then with our weather forecasts and warnings. I am always prepared now!

    1. Hello my fellow New Englander! How did you fare up there in Maine? We used to go up to Eastport for the 4th of July week. I LOVE Maine!

  7. Hope you are snugged down and doing fine.
I know your part of the country well. My daughter and I visited York a few years ago, home to some of my original ancestors. New Hampshire is the most beautiful state in the union!
