We have been saving our pennies to purchase a sofa for our tv room. This weekend we were finally able to buy our new white Ektorp sofa from Ikea.
It is not a bright white, but sort of a creamy white - which is exactly what I wanted.
Pottery Barn makes a sofa that looks almost identical. But the Ikea sofa was $799, while the Pottery Barn sofa is a whopping $3849.
This was the room when we moved in. It had been used as a bedroom. I thought it was going to be very dark in there.
We painted it "Moonlight White" by Behr. And boy did it lighten up the room.
Here is what we did with the room
when we first moved in.
I actually liked the room,
but it just didn't promote family togetherness.
Only two people could sit in here.
Now we have plenty of seating.
And this sofa is comfy.
I mean really comfy.
It meets or exceeds all our expectations.
I found these wonderfully warm blankets at Marshalls for $12.99 & $19.99.
The pillows and ottoman
are borrowed from the living room.
One of my "thrift store sweater" pillows.
I think I will be repainting the dresser tv stand.
I adore the white with the pine floors.
We had the sofa delivered (for $149).
It came in 4 boxes.
As with almost everything from Ikea, there is a lot of assembly required.
The fabric had to be ironed
(which took a couple of hours).

I wish I could go to your house, sink in your new comfy couch, and take a nap under one of those fluffy throws!! What a great relaxing space! I love it all!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie
Aw Leslie, I wish you could come over too!

It's perfect! What a great and comfortable room!! So cozy!
ReplyDeleteI was a little worried about the fit, but it really is perfect in here. Thanks for visiting Amanda Jo!

Your new sofa looks super comfy. Love the creamy white and the entire room looks perfectly cozy and inviting! I am your newest follower. Stop by for a visit when you have a chance.

Hi Susan, I can't wait to visit your blog!

Love your new sofa from Ikea...so comfy and pretty!! The room looks great!!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
Hi Cindy, Love hearing from you!
DeleteGloria
It does look so comfortable and I love the blankets from Marshall's very cozy!
ReplyDeleteIt is so comfortable, and I wanted to pick up another blanket at Marshalls (to cover our ottoman), but the $12.99 blankets were all marked $19.99. I think I got a real "steal".
DeleteThanks for visiting!
Gloria
So fun to see your sectional, too! I love all your cozy pillows and throws, and too funny a pillow is on my diy list (already have my goodwill sweater) to warm it up for winter. I borrowed a steamer from a friend and it worked great getting out all the wrinkles, it was just a cheapie and worked fine, so I'm thinking I may get one. Love all your rustic touches, too! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Pam, Thanks for stopping by. I wish my photos looked like yours! Thanks for the tip about the steamer too.
DeleteGloria
That looks so pretty! I just love the Ektorp and wish I had the nerve to get one. Maybe upstairs in our extra room...you'll have to keep us posted about how much you like it. I've read so many good reviews!
ReplyDeleteStacey, I was a little skeptical too, but I love it!
DeleteGloria
I absolutely love your new sofa! It makes that room so inviting...I think I "need" one. All of your decorations in the room look wonderful, too. Such a change from how the room was when you bought the house. You've done an amazing job!
ReplyDeleteHi Dyanna, Thanks for stopping by. I think you do "need" one too! Quite the change from the dark red room - right!?
DeleteGloria
I've had my eye on that sofa for years to replace our 20 yr old JC Penny sofa (!) -- and keep hearing such high praise for it from everyone. It looks absolutely looks beautiful in your newly brightened room. Love it! I'm convinced!
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
I highly recommend this sofa Laurie - replace that old JC Penney sofa (or keep it, it might come in style again)!
DeleteSeriously though, it is really worth the price, I truly love it!
Gloria
I love your new couch! It is amazing how large it makes the room look now compared to the before. I have the Ektorp couch and the big chair and ottamon, and the small chair (Tulia or something?) I love them all. I am on a very tight budget and believe it or not I got the couch for $35. Somebody was moving, lucky me. Paid $50 each for the chairs. I have 3 kids, 3 dogs and 3 cats and everyone gave me such a hard time for getting white furniture. I have now had it almost 2 years and it still looks perfect. White makes everything look clean. I wash the covers every few months. Enjoy your new purchase--it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy,
DeleteWow, you really got a deal! Glad to know it still looks great after 2 years (and all those kids and animals)! You really were brave to get a white sofa! Thanks for the visit, coming to see you too!
Gloria
Just perfect! Love the new sofa sectional, your right it does seem for homey and comfy and perfect for family gatherings.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, We have already had a few family gatherings here on our new sofa. It is one purchase that was definately worth the money!
DeleteGloria
I love it. Sometimes a sectional doesn't look cozy but this one sure does.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly Debby! Thanks for coming by!

I love this room. I have been wondering about this same sofa from ikea. I was worried it wouldnt be good quality, especially the cushions, but yours looks GREAT! Just in time for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't be more pleased with the quality of this sofa Anonymous!

Fantastic solution for a small room for a family. I have an IKEA Ektorp sofa (straight 3-seater) and I love it. I also purchased a 2nd white slipcover for it. If it helps, here's a hint. When you wash the slipcover, hang it ouside. It's own weight is enough to dry it without wrinkles. If it does need a touchup it can be tossed in the dryer with a damp facecloth and the wrinkles come right out. Much nicer to snuggle on that sofa than iron :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hint Chris, it sure will come in handy! I love the fact that the slipcovers can be replaced so inexpensively!

Love your room and your new IKEA sofa. I have the loveseat from Pottery barn, but got it on sale and was happy for that. You are right, they are nearly identical. Your room is so inviting and looks so comfy. The floors are gorgeous. I bet you are really enjoying this great room.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to visit you and your lovely blog.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
Thanks for stopping by Celestina. The Pottery Barn model would certainly be my first choice, but with my budget I don't think I will ever own anything except a catalog from Pottery Barn! I do love to get the look for less though.

What an awesome new sofa! And your space is just so warm, welcoming, and comfy looking! That wide planked floor is stunning as well. You have created such a beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing at Blissful Whites Wednesday!
Have a lovely week!

So happy I stopped in from Becky's...your room is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI love your new couch...I so can not wait until my husband and I can purchase a new one it's on our list. Your room looks great!!
ReplyDeleteOh you lucky, lucky girl. I have had my eye on this couch for a while and had pretty much decided to go with it. Looking at how nice it looks in your cozy, comfy room I'm thinking maybe I should stop looking around and just go for it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your palette of creams, neutrals and warm wood tones. What a fabulous job of combining cozy, warm and PRETTY. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJeanette
p.s. Happy to follow you and see more :)
I love these couches! I often swoon over them online and they look beautiful in your space. What a transformation from the original red walls, I love how it is all coming together.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it all. The sofa is gorgeous and so is all of your decor. Beautiful room. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteLove it-your room looks beautiful. Is it 2 sofa's pushed together or is it sold as a sectional. I have been wanting this sofa for awhile but afraid to take the plunge with 2 kids and 2 dogs. Thanks, Lisa
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, I sent you a reply from my phone but I'm not sure if you got it. This sofa is actually 3 pieces, but they attach together. It is sold as one sectional sofa for $799 for the white one. They have lots of colors for a little more. I think it would be fine with kids and dogs, but I might avoid the white. They have some cool tans now too. Good luck!

Looks great! I have always loved that sofa from IKEA. I am jealous of your beautiful pine, wide-plank floors - gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you stopped by my blog -- good luck recovering your ottoman. I would love to see it when it's finished!
Hi Julie, I am SO glad you stopped by! I went to Joann Fabric and Hobby Lobby today, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I ended up with a faux suede so we'll see how it goes.

That sofa looks so comfy! I'm ready to dive in!!! Thanks for linking up to Its Party Time.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend xox
Thanks so much Anne! Great party!

What a delightfully cozy room you have created! Wonderful job. I scored the Ektorp on Craig's List brand new a few months back and we just went to IKEA last week and purchased the loveseat. Like you, we couldn't be happier. LOVE it!!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Kim
What a lovely room! I am coveting that sofa. Really, I am. We have a room that is just begging for that sofa. One of these days...
ReplyDeleteI have eyed that sofa several times. It's so pretty, and you have everything done up just beautifully! Love those pine floors!
ReplyDelete♥lINSEY
Fate must have directed me to your post because I've been looking for a new sofa/sectional and was considering this one from IKEA. After reading this, I'm convinced to go with this option. First of all, it looks great! Second, you mentioned it's comfortable. Third, I showed it to my hubby and he likes it. The room is really pretty and cozy. Love the floors! I'm really glad I stumbled onto your blog tonight. Thanks so much for helping make my decision. :)
ReplyDeleteI have an Ikea Ektorp sofa bed in my spare room. We have had it since 2003 and it is still in GREAT shape. I bought it with white and blue stripe slipcovers, but I switched to red corduroy a few years ago. I still have the stripe slipcovers in the attic. In the summer I made white slipcovers for our living room sofa. I love them, but I have to wash them a lot more frequently than we did our off white floral slipcovers.
ReplyDeleteYour entire look is beautiful. Today is my first visit to your blog, but I will be back.
I love your sofa, and everything looks so beautiful!! Great choice on the sofa. Thank you so much for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent this week. I am so thrilled to have you. :)
ReplyDeleteYour room looks great. Totally my colours too. Love the textures in the pretty pillows and blankets and totally love the pine floors. I want the Ektorp sectional too ($1200 here in Canada) but we need to save more first. For now I lucked out and bought the ikea couch slipcover in white and took a chance on it fitting our custom sofa with a busy print and it did. Have had it for over two years, boys who hang out in barns, eat in the family room, and a chocolate lab too. Nothing the wash won't fix. I'm now following.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am so so jealous. I so want one of the exact same lounges. We have the same ones in Ikea in Australia and when I sat on one a few weeks ago I was in heaven. They are so comfortable and look amazing!!! Congratulations! From your new follower, x Julie
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm visiting via Jennifer Rizzo's Creative Friday party. Congrats on being featured! Love your new sofa. I've been perusing your blog and notice we have a lot in common. I have a regular Ektrop sofa in our living room. You're right they are super comfy. Our front entrance doors are even the same color! Love your home and all the things you've done. I am now following you and would love if you would stop by and visit me sometime.

Like many of the other commenters here, I've been considering getting two of these loveseats from Ikea. I didn't realize you have to put it together though. I live alone, is it something I can do myself? All those boxes have me a little apprehensive. But I love how it looks in your new home!
ReplyDeleteThose darn Swedes! (Danes? Fins?) They really know their stuff. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteLoving it all, I have the JCPenny sofa with the same slipcovers as Pottery Barn. Mine are so hard to get on my hands hurt for days after switching them out to other colors. Yours looks so much easier than mine.
ReplyDeleteYou're home is beautiful! I love the neutrals you used in this space. We just purchased our first home and I've been reading reviews on the Ektorp now for months. Is it entirely uncomfortable? I'm excited to be a new follower! xo
ReplyDeleteLOVE THE SOFA..and LOVE IKEA....
ReplyDeleteI too love your room and this sectional and finally purchased it this weekend. However, if you are able to go into an IKEA store to purchase, home delivery starts at 59 dollars even for an entire house of furniture. I also purchased beds and delivery charges to my area were 79 dollars. Online much higher.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is good to know. I had no idea. Thank you!
DeleteWarmly, Gloria
I just came across your blog the other day. I love love love the look of your room. It looks so comfy and inviting. Its not to much and very family friendly. I am definitely purchasing the ektorp sofa. I was a little weary about purchasing a white sofa since I have lil ones. But after seeing yours I can't wait to order mines.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know if you got the white sofa and how you are liking it?
DeleteWarmly, Gloria
Your sofa cushions look more "plump" than the displays at our local Ikea store. Is this how they looked originally or did you add something to make them look fuller? We are replacing our house furniture destroyed by a fire a few months ago and I want this kind of sofa for our not so large living room. Loved the sofa at the store but felt the seat cushions could use a little more fullness. We were told at the store that Ikea offered no option for added filling.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that I never responded to this before now! I know it is probably too late for you, but for others reading here, we did not add any filling to the cushions and find that they are very comfortable. They are not "overstuffed" but they seem fine to us. I am so sorry about the fire. My house burned to the ground when I was in 7th grade. I know how difficult things must have been for you. I hope you are doing well now!
