I always wait until the day after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas.
I just really like the fall decorations for Thanksgiving - the last hurrah if you will -
before going full-out for Christmas.
But......
Last night I had to make a trip to Walmart.
I went to buy some sewing machine needles after breaking every last one.
It had been a really good day.
I had accomplished many projects,
and not bought a single thing.
Yet.
But as I was perusing Walmart,
I saw these plaid sheets.
I was in need of another set of sheets.
Really.
And I wanted flannel for the warmth.
And this was such a great color for Christmas,
but I can still use these sheets all winter.
And they were only $22.96.
I caved.
And bought a blanket.
$12.96
And a couple of buttons.
$1.97
I mean it was cheap, cheap, cheap.
I mean it was cheap, cheap, cheap.
The sheets went perfectly
with my new Pottery Barn-ish Christmas pillow.
And I saved a lot of money
making these drop cloth pillows myself.
I added some ribbon I already had -
and the buttons.
DrEaMy
I cut some holly and pine from my yard.
(Why did I not notice this seam when I took the photo)?
Here is a similar room from the
Christmas 2012 Pottery Barn catalog.
Pottery Barn vs. Mine
This bed is not the same as mine, but there is one that is almost exactly the same.
The bed at Pottery Barn is $1099.
I've had mine for years.
We bought it at Bernie & Phylls Furniture
for $300.
I've had mine for years.
We bought it at Bernie & Phylls Furniture
for $300.
Pottery Barn $1099 |
For a fraction of the PB cost,
I like mine just as much.
I used the ribbon tie that was wrapped
around the packaging for the sheets
and wove it through my Homegoods lamps (clearance $25).
Adornment - $Free
These little pinecones
had adorned some candles.
I saved them knowing I would use them for something.
This was a similar lamp I found online, woah, I couldn't afford one of these, let alone two.
Shutter Me Shingles White Table Lamp $347.91 |
The perfect room for a long winter's nap.
Total cost for this Christmas Bedroom on a budget -
$53
Pottery Barn look for a Walmart price.
I like your Christmas bedroom and what you did with it. And the pillows you made too. Sandie
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandie, and Happy Thanksgiving to you!
DeleteGloria
So beautiful, it makes my heart ache. I'm very happy for you, Gloria.
ReplyDeleteAw thanks girlfriend!
DeleteAdorable. I am a big fan of flannel sheets, and I love the idea of bringing Christmas into other rooms of the house. I usually just stick with one room.
ReplyDeleteI love these sheets Amanda. They are warm and comfortable, look great, and they are cheap. Go for a second room this year - use some greens and ribbon and you can do it for almost nothing. Happy Thanksgiving Amanda!
DeleteGloria
Such a perfectly winter-y, Christmas-y cozy looking bed! I really like the pillow you made, and all the little details in your room bring it all together nicely. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt is all those adjectives Jeanette! I added a Pottery Barn look-a-like that I just found to the post. It looks just like it, and I found the photo after I did the room! Happy Thanksgiving Jeanette!
DeleteGloria
Oh your room looks beyond cozy! It looks like something out of an ad!
ReplyDeleteLove your flooring too! what kind of wood is that?
Hi Cheyenne, I actually found a Pottery Barn photo that looks just like my room. So glad you like it! The floor is wide pine and is original to the house built in 1830. It is in every room, closet, and bathroom, except my daughter attic bedroom. I love it! Happy Thanksgiving Cheyenne!

Hi Andrea, I can't wait to see your room too!

DeleteI love a good deal. I'm going to check out my Walmart to see if they have that blanket. It's perfect for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam, I hope you find one!
DeleteThis room is so gorgeous, I love everything about it. I'm drawn to the 'dream' sign, did you make it ? And also the subway sign with the British stations on it (because I'm a Brit !).
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona, I didn't make the sign. I bought it at Hobby Lobby. I LOVE my subway sign too! Would love to visit England some day!
DeleteSo cozy! It looks great! I love your room--the floors and everything look so primitive and warm. Thank you for sharing this at Rustic Restorations Weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Tammy, I love Rustic Restorations! Thanks for giving me a place to share!
DeleteSupa Dupa dreamy! I love flannel sheets...though in recent years I've betrayed them for fleece. (shh!)

I didn't know if I could do it Tasha, but it came out better than I hoped for!

Starview Sonnet
Hi Cori, thank you for your sweet, sweet comment!
DeleteYour room looks great -- better than PB and I think that says a lot!
ReplyDeleteYou made my day Glenda!
DeleteI have a really large bedroom now but our next place will have a smaller cozier bedroom. I think your room is warm and beautiful. Many years ago we had a smaller
ReplyDeleteroom and I always thought it was great.
Lovely job!
I think that the master being so small is one reason they had such a hard time selling this house. Our nightstands didn't fit, but we used them in the living room and I'm not missing them (much)! Other than that, this room is perfect for us! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteJust found you! Love, love, love your room. It is so cozy and warm. I love plaid, too and what a find at Walmart! I like your bed better than PB's, it has more character and you are so lucky to have had it for so long. Isn't it fun when you have something you really love! I switch around a lot of stuff but when I got my Pencil Post Bed I was finally happy with my room. Come visit me if you can: theoldefarmhouse.blogspot.com and I will also come back to see you! Really love that room! Joy
ReplyDeleteHi Joy, I will be stopping by tonight!

ReplyDeleteOh, Gloria ~ I absolutely love your style! Thanks so much for linking up to last week's party...you've been featured (again!) at this week's party. Have a beautiful day filled with blessings!
ReplyDeletehugs, Mary Beth
Thank you so much Mary Beth! I love linking up at Cupcakes & Crinoline!
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! You will be one of the features tomorrow at Make it Pretty Monday at The Dedicated House. Swing on in and pick up a feature button. Hope to see your prettiness again on Monday. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
ReplyDeleteHi Kathryn, Thanks so much for the feature! I have to figure out how to add the "I've Been Featured" button. I couldn't add it because I used up all my space, but now I'm paying for more space so I should be able to do it now. Love your party, I look for it every Monday as soon as I get home from school!
DeleteLOVE your room!!! Looks much nicer than Pottery Barn's. You did a great job at a fraction of the price. Looks like the perfect room to hibernate in during the cold winter months. The sheets and blanket are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCindy
I just wish I had more time to hibernate Cindy!
DeleteJust beautiful! I love the bedding, it is so country, cozy! Room is very nicely decorated for the holiday. Love your floors. Do you live in an older farm house? Our home is 1851 and is one of our greatest loves ever! You have a very nice sense for decorating! Again lovely bedroom!
ReplyDeleteHi Katie. Yes, our home was built in 1830 and was once a school house. Someone else told us they think part of it is older and was moved here so I have to research it. I love old houses!
DeleteWow, that does look really nice! Classy and simple and elegant.I wonder if Pottery barn is aware of the public service it does, providing us all with inspiration, while we craftily knock off the same look at home for less?
ReplyDeleteWal*Mart, eh? I'll be there tomorrow. I haven't bought any sheets in ages.
Haha Rhissanna! As I was replying to my comments, yours came in on my phone. You really made me chuckle! Hope you find some great sheets too!
DeleteExcellent Job!! Your's look even better, I love the final look...
ReplyDeleteI think yours is better than PB...gotta love Wal-mart! Your room looks so warm and inviting. Love the Dream sign - did you make it? Now following you!
ReplyDeleteOh My Word, I do love this so much!! I wanna crawl in here and snuggle. Now I totally want to redo my bedroom! Wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
ReplyDeletebeautiful job! I LOVE your floors! Kathy@relatemag.com
ReplyDeleteLove the new look, makes me want to drive right over to Walmart and get some of those sheets myself. Your bedroom is amazing and I'm thinking I'll copy you. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to your trip to Walmart! I spent 2-1/2 hours in there today. Ugh....and I didn't see the pretty throw & sheets, so I guess I'll be going back! ;o) I like your lamps better than the ones you didn't get, and the room is totally dreamy!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, every bit as beautiful as Pottery Barn's.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. Now I need to go to Walmart today. How cozy! Your pillow is adorable too. I am so glad you joined the knock off decor party..this is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love this room! What a great change and such a thrifty price compared to PB! I am so into plaid I may just have to make a WalMart trip myself!
ReplyDeletehugs, Linda
Well, this is just flat AWESOME....I love it so much.
ReplyDeleteNow, if you will excuse me....I am OFF TO WALMART....and hoping they still have these adorable sheets...
xo bj
Gorgeous!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the bedroom so much!! It inspired me to redo my own bedroom, in a very similar style!!!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!!
Jenn~
Such a wonderful room! I love it! I keep dreaming of decking my bed out in a plaid comforter and bed hangings for the winter months, but I am never able to find a comforter I like. I think I'll just have to sew one. This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room! Wondering how I missed those sheets at Walmart. I'm guessing it's because back then I had more flannel sheets than I needed and wasn't even looking at them.
ReplyDelete
